This position presents an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role in our organization and put your management experience and knowledge to use while developing strategies for team motivation and optimal results. The First Vice President is constitutionally the president’s companion and second representative in charge. She/he together with the 2nd Vice- President helps the President to make decisions.
Constitutional duties and responsibilities
The following are the main duties and responsibilities the position requires according to the bylaws of the organization:
- Takes responsibility for all programs
- Helps president to do his job
- Replaces the President in his/her absence
- Becomes the elected president for next period
Other duties and responsibilities
The following are some of the duties and responsibilities the position might requires along the period. Although, there might be many coming up on the term, these are the most relevant to consider as you enter the position:
- Coordinates the Marketing plan together with the President and the ones he assigns
- Coordinates the Corporate Image Plan
Qualifications & Requirements
According to Chapter III, Article 7 on Panama TESOL Bylaws:
Any resident in the Republic of Panama who is involved in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages can be a member. The membership can include teachers, administrators, translators, writers, editors, students, or any retired professional from a related field to the teaching of English for speakers of other languages.
The basic qualifications required to successfully occupy the position are as follows:
- Membership: Be an active member of Panama TESOL
- Education: Be a professional from a related field to the teaching of English for speakers of other languages
- Specialized knowledge: TESOL, Association management, basic financial understanding
- Skills: kin on details, technology oriented, people skills
- Abilities: to manage people, direct groups, be organized
- Other: Be respectful, supportive, and enthusiastic
- Experience: preferably
Working conditions
This position does not require a specific working place. As Panama TESOL is a volunteer organization, times and places will be as the position or the events demand, except for the responsibility to attend meetings whether they be on-site, or via web.
The person holding this position acknowledges there is work to do and commits him/herself to organize his/her time to be available to collaborate.

- Coordinates the plan to add Volunteers (Helping Hands) to the events
- Coordinates the recruitment plan for HR sustainability
- Coordinates the Marketing plan together with the President and the ones he assigns

This position presents an exciting opportunity to take on a determining role in our organization and put management and financial experience in practice in the development of strategies that translate into accountability and transparency in the conduction of transactions and management of revenues. The treasurer helps in the financial decisions and assures transparency in the transactions. Takes care of the financial health of the organization.

- Is responsible for the finance of the association along with the President
- Authorizes expenses and financial transactions
- Delivers a 3-monthly report (to be published in the newsletter)
- Delivers a complete financial report to the membership after period (audited) signed by
the president and the treasurer

- Conducts the internal audit with the president
- Prepares audit report
- Evaluates financial sustainability for every project
- Advices Board’s financial decisions

If you are detail-oriented and skilled in technology (Office Suite) this data-management role can give you the chance to fully play an essential role in the success of our organization by ensuring all data is updated. The Correspondent Secretary is responsible for keeping track of all the correspondence (emails in the central account). Coordinates with the 2VP, Recording Secretary, Sub-Secretary and Newsletter Editor.

- Collaborates with 2VP in public relations of the association

- Consolidates and manages all the official social media accounts
- Designs a plan for communications

This position offers the chance to contribute on data collecting and information management. If you are detail-oriented and skilled on technology (Office Suite) this data-management role allows you to keep the Board informed of all the decisions and projects in agenda. The Correspondent Secretary is responsible for keeping track of all the details discussed in meetings and for keeping the board informed through the minutes. Collaborates with the 2VP, Correspondent Secretary and the Sub-Secretary.

- Keeps a record of all association’s official documents and Archive
- Collaborates with 2VP to keep precise and updated database of membership

- Consolidates and manages all the official signed documents (Bylaws, agreements, proposals, acts, minutes, etc.)
- Always considers the benefits and status of members in Board decisions (Active, Honorary, Benefactors, and Passive)
- Collaborates with the Parliamentarian to review the impact on the membership

If you have really good reading and writing skills and are skilled in technology and social media platforms, this role allows you to demonstrate. The Newsletter Editor is responsible for managing our social media platforms, updating the webpage and coordinating changes with the Webmaster.

Responsible to coordinate and execute all tasks related to Panama TESOL social media and webpage. All documents and communication needs to be authorized by the Executive Board.

- Collects, classifies, and organizes articles from different sources to make the newsletter
- Determines the features of a publication
- Sets guidelines and expectations for authors and reviewers
- Sets and enforce deadlines
- Makes final determinations about what will be published in an issue Estimates costs for every edition and communicate it to the board Coordinates frequency of publications
- Oversees all operations of a publication
